Eyes of Grandeur

Welcome to the work in progress known as “Eyes of Granduer.” This branching narrative is a concept for a game story that requires you to make decisions throughout the game based on what you feel is best for the protagonist. The concept for this story came from a lot of different inspirations. The main character is loosely based off of my youngest child, while the main antagonist is based off my oldest son. The story itself has a lot of moving parts and aims to put you in the eyes of Gabriel, a young prince who has to venture out and find a way to save his kingdom.

The first draft of the story started in the format of a novel with the first chapter being crafted to introduce you to the world and the characters that inhabit the world. This approach allowed for the bones of the story to be written out in a way that quickly gives the reader a brief overview of the world they will be thrown into.

A story is only as good as the characters that the author creates. I thought a fun way to get a good idea of some of the characters in the story would be to take them out of the setting in which you would be used to seeing them and placing them in a completly new place. To make this work I combined the characters and setting from the coffee shop story and had them host Gabriel and few others for a dinner party.

To start the planning for the story, I wanted to focus on placing the reader in the eyes of the main character. To do this I began to plan the backstory of the character. This prose places you directly in the eyes of Gabriel. When writing this I focused on not only what Gabriel, a teenage boy, would experience in a physical sense but also what he would be feeling mentally and emotionally. To make this accurate I also had to put into the story how his parents would be portrayed through his eyes.

With the first portion of the stories prologue created I decided to begin with the branching narrative aspects of the story. To make this work I utilized Twine to create a branching story. Now when reading you will feel even more immersed within the story because you get to make the decisions for Gabriel. Gabriel is now a reflection of what you want him to be.
